Riyadh:A drone assault on Saudi Arabia's Abha airport wounded eight individuals on Tuesday, stated the Saudi-led coalition battling Huthi rebels in neighbouring Yemen.
Following an earlier reported assault, "a second drone trying to assault Abha Worldwide Airport was intercepted and shot down", the coalition stated in an announcement carried by the dominion's official Al-Ekhbariya tv channel.
"Eight individuals have been wounded and a civilian plane was broken, in response to preliminary data," it added.
The coalition stated that the second assault on the airport "constitutes a struggle crime" after it intercepted a booby-trapped drone earlier within the day.
Based on El-Ekhbariya, after the coalition intercepted the primary assault, shrapnel hit elements of the airport close to the runway.
It added that flights had been briefly halted "to make sure the protection of incoming and departing plane, in addition to civilians on the airport".
The rebels have but to touch upon the incident.
Saudi Arabia intervened within the Yemen struggle on behalf of the internationally recognised authorities in 2015, shortly after the Huthis seized the capital Sanaa.
The Iran-allied insurgents have repeatedly focused the dominion in cross-border assaults.
In August, the rebels escalated these operations, utilizing drones and missiles.
Yemen's grinding battle has claimed tens of 1000's of lives and displaced thousands and thousands, leading to what the United Nations calls the world's worst humanitarian disaster.
